Sustainable innovation and investment funds

The driving force for a competitive oils and proteins sector, innovation is part of Sofiproteol’s DNA, and the company’s goal is to support sustainable performance and entrepreneurship throughout the sector.

Managed on behalf of oilseed and pulses interbranches, FASO (strategic oilseeds and pulses action fund) finances innovative research projects designed to improve products’ competitiveness and develop outlets for them. This mission of general interest takes the form of programmes like the FSRSO (support fund for oilseed research) and the FIP (innovation fund for competitive pulses production).

Sofiproteol supports responsible research as a shareholder of the institute of excellence, P.I.V.E.R.T (oilseed biomass-based plant chemistry) and the platform IMPROVE dedicated to develop new industrial applications for plant-based proteins.

Sofiproteol is also looking after the management of the equity interests in affiliated funds, such as, the first venture capital fund in France dedicated to agribusiness and food-processing companies.

Sofiproteol also provides support to emerging territorial methanisation projects, in connection with waste suppliers and storage organisations.

Capagro testimonial

The Capagro Innovation investment fund was created in 2014 to acquire minority holdings in young innovative companies in the food and agribusiness sectors.

In addition to its strict goal of profitability, Sofiprotéol supported this fund with two aims in mind:

  • To contribute to the emergence of innovative companies which would guarantee the longevity and competitiveness of France’s farming sectors
  • To have a tool available for monitoring its current and future markets

“Sofiprotéol’s substantial involvement in creating Capagro Innovation helped to raise €37 million, and enabled us to broaden our network of experts, crucial for evaluating the various investment requests. This is a particularly fruitful collaboration.”

Jean-Baptiste Cuisinier, Chairman of Capagro’s Board of Directors
