The French leader in oilseed crushing and oil refining
With 7 industrial plants in France, Saipol is the French leader in oilseed crushing. In 2010, Saipol holds a crushing capacity of 4 million tons of rapeseed and sunflower seed, accounting for 70% of total French oilseed.
Saipol processes oilseed and sells:
- crude, neutral and refined oil for the global agri-food market, industries, renewable energies,
- and oilseed meal for animal feed.
A number of these plants also produce biodiesel and vegetable glycerin for Saipol’s sister company, Diester Industrie.
Saipol is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Soprol – Sofiprotéol’s Oilseed Division. Saipol owns Lesieur (manufacturer of edible oils and salad dressings) and Expur (oilseed crushing and oil refining in Romania).

A company at the core of Sofiprotéol’s activities
Oilseed crushing and oil refining are crucial activities for the oilseed industry. They are the first steps for adding value to rapeseed and sunflower seed crops by producing oil and oilseed meal for industrial use.
Sofiprotéol’s other subsidiary companies add extra value to Saipol products further down the production chain:
- Lesieur packages and markets edible vegetable oil and salad dressings,
- Diester Industrie supervises biodiesel production in France. Diester Industrie markets biodiesel, under the brand name Diester, and glycerin, a by-product of biodiesel production.
- Oleon and Novance manufacture and market renewable products made from vegetable oil, esters and glycerine.
- Glon Sanders uses oilseed meal as an ingredient in animal feed.
