Animal nutrition and related industries

The Animal Division’s mission is to “feed humanity in quality and quantity while remaining a responsible and successful leader”. The goal is to make animal industries more competitive.

Finding more economical ways to raise livestock

Glon-Sanders continues to innovate in order to facilitate the work of livestock farmers by :

  • reducing production costs,
  • improving livestock farming conditions,
  • ensuring the quality of human nutrition.

Significant resources dedicated to innovation

Glon-Sanders conducts a significant part of its research at the Sourches research and innovation farm near Le Mans. The facility is Europe’s 1st private research center for animal husbandry. To ensure its innovations can be applied in the field, Glon-Sanders also conducts trials at 28 test farms in France.

This extensive research and development system has resulted in many innovations that account for society’s evolving needs :

  • optimized pig nutrition that helped lower the amount of nitrogen in livestock effluents by 15%,
  • use of dietary phytases to improve the digestibility of foods containing phosphorus,
  • development of Sandiprofil food, making it possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from dairy cows by 25%.

Glon-Sanders also works in collaboration with a number of experts and research institutes, particularly with the INRA, Onidol, CETIOM, and Saipol on rapeseed.

High-performance formulas at the best price

Research efforts aim to develop feed that meets the nutritional needs of animals and is more affordable for farmers. Each year, 150 raw materials are analyzed and tested in order to improve the feed formulations offered.

Creating more value with rapeseed oil cake

Rapeseed oil cakes are a competitive alternative to raw materials traditionally used in animal feed, particularly imported soy. Highly rich in protein, Sofiprotéol’s innovative “Colza Plus” feed is manufactured near crushing facilities.

The availability and geographic proximity of raw materials reduces manufacturing costs, and the short production route improves traceability.

“Colza Plus” is an example of Sofiprotéol’s sustainable commitment strategy and the use of synergies among companies to reduce the Group’s environmental footprint.
