Sofiprotéol becomes the reference shareholder in Lesieur Cristal (Morocco)
Through its holding company Soprol, Sofiprotéol has taken a 41% stake in Lesieur Cristal, the Moroccan group specialised in the refining and packaging of edible oils that achieves annual sales worth 3.5 billion Moroccan dirham (€300 million).
Sofiprotéol becomes the reference shareholder and industrial operator of Lesieur Cristal, alongside a group of institutional investors. Lesieur Cristal will still be quoted on the Casablanca stock exchange.
The leader in Morocco, with a refining capacity of 460,000 tonnes and a bottling capacity of 300 million litres, Lesieur Cristal produces a range of seed and olive oils. It is also a leading actor in Moroccan soap manufacturing. Furthermore, it holds a 36% stake in Cristal Tunisie, alongside the French group Lesieur (34%), a subsidiary of Sofiprotéol.
This operation, which further strengthens the Lesieur brand, forms part of Sofiprotéol's growth strategy in the Mediterranean basin.
"Maghreb countries constitute one of the principal targets for our international development", explained Philippe Tillous-Borde, Director General of Sofiprotéol. "Sofiprotéol is investing in Morocco in the promising edible oils market. Through Glon Sanders, we are also present in the manufacture of feed for livestock farmers. We also wish to contribute to the development in Morocco of oilseed crops such as rapeseed, sunflower and olive, and to the success of the Green Morocco Plan".
