Expur

Expur is a subsidiary of Sofiprotéol, and a leading player in the oilseed industry in Romania. It collects sunflower seed and rapeseed, then processes the seeds into vegetable oil for human consumption, oilseed meal for animal nutrition, and biodiesel. Expur packages its table oils and markets them under both its own brand names and distributor brand names.

A leader in oilseed development in Romania

Created in 1972, Expur has become a major player in the processing of sunflower seed and rapeseed in Romania. In 2010, its annual seed-crushing capacity reached 380,000 metric tons.

The company joined the Sofiprotéol Oilseed Division in September 2010 following its acquisition by Saipol, the French leader in oilseed crushing and vegetable oil processing. With this purchase, Saipol entered a region with a high growth potential in the oilseed market, while Expur benefits from Saipol’s industrial and commercial expertise in its markets

Focus on growth and diversification

Since 1997, Expur has pursued a vast expansion program.

Expur is now one of Romania’s leading producers of edible sunflower oil. It markets oils under the brand names Ulcom and Marisol, as well as distributor brand names.
More recently, the company began producing rapeseed oils for biofuels. Expur owns a 100,000 metric tons production capacity of biodiesel for the Romanian and export markets.

With this strategy and its large processing capacity, Expur has become a major supplier of sunflower and rapeseed oil meal in the Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea basin, where the oilseed market is experiencing rapid growth.
