Diester, a biofuel pioneer in France.

Thanks to the well-known Diester brand, the Sofiprotéol Group is a major player in renewable energy development in France.

The Sofiprotéol Group actively combats climate change and promotes environmental protection more generally by developing biofuels.

This innovative activity is in line with the Grenelle Environment Round Table’s approach. Along with plant chemistry, it is creating opportunities in new markets for the oilseed and protein crop industry.

In 2008, Sofiprotéol strengthened its commitment in this area by launching several research programs on 2nd and 3rd generation biofuels.

Taking action for green growth with Diester

Sofiprotéol sees renewable energy as a major area of growth for the oilseed industry. The Group is particularly involved in biodiesel development and production under the Diester brand. Since 1995, all diesel fuel distributed at filling stations contains up to 7% biodiesel.

The laws resulting from the Grenelle Environment Round Table have confirmed biofuel’s place in the “array of renewable energies” that will complement increasingly scarce and expensive fossil fuel resources. To reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, France plans to incorporate 10% biofuel into diesel by 2015.

Innovation, a Group priority

In 2008, Sofiprotéol launched a 2nd generation biodiesel production program. The goal is to develop a complete chain of procedures for manufacturing synthetic biofuel using a thermochemical method or BTL (Biomass To Liquid).

This program was submitted to the ADEME Demonstration Fund under the 2nd generation biofuels category. Established following the Grenelle Environment Round Table, this fund makes it possible to experiment with innovative technologies in fields related to the environment.
